🟡 fun facts about yellow

Yellow is the most visible color in daylight to the human eye, which is why it's used for taxis, school buses, and caution signs.
It's the first color the eye notices and the last one the brain holds onto — yellow memories tend to fade in detail but linger in feeling.
Yellow is closely tied to nostalgia in color psychology — it's the shade most associated with sun-bleached photographs and aging memories.
Golden hour, the warm yellow light just before sunset, is named for the way it makes everything look softer, slower, and more sentimental.
In many cultures yellow represents both happiness and caution — joy that comes with a warning label.
Studies show scent is the sense most strongly tied to memory — which is why a certain smell can pull you back to a specific yellow-sky afternoon instantly.

✍ what this song means to me

[ fill in below ]
Yellow skies is meant to be about letting go. I had always had the concept of the song in my mind but I never knew it was going to be country until I really got into writing sessions for the album. I asked my great friend Jez from the PIE SISTERS to help me write it and she helped with no hesitation. I found some simple chords and started playing a little tune. While we were writing, we started to focus on the five senses; sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste. We tried to hit every sense of missing somebody, something that you know you're okay without, but still think about every now and then. I've never done a country song before but I do appreciate the genre and definitely wanted to get out of my comfort zone with this one.

In the beginning you even hear a poem, recited by my lovely girlfriend Emily, who actually gave me the lore of Emily Dickinson and how her poems were to her woman "best friend." I never knew this and thought it would be a nice touch to have her read one of her poems as a transition on the album. When I found the poem, it coudn't get more perfect than this. A poem about the senses, mentioning the word "tune" and ending with a nice metaphor about the YELLOW sun. Serendipity at it's finest hour.

📜 lyrics

[verse 1] Smell the breeze passing by As I sit in my seat Hear the leaves rustling Feel the freeze in my knees I taste the calm right before The clouds weep That's when I open my eyes and breathe
[chorus] Like sunflowers growing by the doorstep The honey sweater in the dresser that you left When you hopped in that taxi and headed west And said goodbye To yellow skies
[verse 2] Whiff of whiskey hits my face as I reach for the shot Sounds of tears on the way In the form of rain drops I savor the memories of what it is And what it's not That's when I pull back and release All my thoughts
[chorus] Like sunflowers growing by the doorstep The honey sweater in the dresser that you left When you hopped in that taxi and headed west And said goodbye To yellow skies
